Maltese Falcon Sailing Yacht

What's 42 feet wide by 289 feet long and cost $130,000,000 to build? That's $130 million dollars in case you thought that was a typo. Tom Perkins creation; the Maltese Falcon of course!

The Maltese Falcon is the first privately owned sailing yacht to use automated sails! Complete with futuristic automated carbon fiber sails soaring nearly 20 stories high, and interior cabins of your dreams, this sailing yacht would be the highlight of any sailing enthusiast - that is if you won't have sticker shock at $130 million! Wowza, now that's one sailing yacht!

If the Maltese Falcon has too big of a sticker price to buy you would only need $450,000 per week to charter the magnificent sailing vessel. OK, I'm still choking, but maybe you're not. Either way, thank you for stopping by here at Tall Sails Adventure. We hope you'll return again soon!

Sea Sick Solution for Riding the Waves

Have you ever been sea sick? I have, and it's not a good feeling. My first time feeling sea-sick was actually on board a ferry -- of all places! In fact I wasn't the only one looking and feeling a bit green on that trip - lol. That was many years ago just after high school graduation, and we were on our graduation trip.

Back then, I didn't know that ginger can restrain a person from getting sea-sick. If I had known that, I would have considered taking some with me on the trip. On the other hand, who would have thought any of the passengers would have been feeling so green from riding a ferry boat! Seemed ridiculous at the time, but the water was very rough and they had quite a few large trucks parked beneath the deck on one side of the ferry.

Remembering that experience, when we went on our fishing trip up to the San Juan Islands three years ago, we took an ample supply of ginger. We took ginger in three forms. We had fresh ginger root, which we peeled and then rubbed a bit of the root onto our wrists. We also had ginger in the gel caps and made sure we took about three gel caps of ginger for breakfast, and then again later in the day. One last form of ginger we took was ginger cookies. Can't go without cookies!

In all, the various forms of ginger proved effective during our two day fishing trip, and we didn't get sea-sick at all! I also just learned that you can drink ginger tea to help clear up a cold! Ginger tea would have been an easy way to consume it for our fishing trip too, and next time I'll have to remember ginger tea! If you have a tendency to gingerly ride the waves, just remember a little bit of ginger goes a long way to heal your sea-sick tummy.

Tall Wave Encounter

Sailing across the waves is one thing in a sailing vessel or sailboat, but what about on a surf board? It's amazing how surfers stay on the board as it is, but when the big one rolls in, it's even more awe-inspiring to watch the surfers. This is a big wave encounter, and it gives you goose bumps just to watch it!

Sunny Sailing Destinations

In my last post I just shared a great tip for you on how to potentially rent a vacation rental of your dreams at a lower budget. Your sailing vacation destination can easily be located online.

If you are planning to travel to someplace warm you might want to consider choosing from beautiful Panama City beach vacation homes. One feature I really like about that website is the fact that you can view the rentals from their video photo viewer, so you really get the opportunity to see what you'll be renting before you get there. That sure helps to eliminate any potential disappointments with the place you rent.

How about having some fun in the sun in Fort Myers beach vacation rentals? I just finished drooling over a vacation rental in SeaCrest complete with a pool and beach all rolled into one. What more could you ask for? Why a sailboat of course! With all of that water around, you won't have problems finding one to rent.

If by chance you have a vacation rental to list, you might discover that's a great way to bring in some extra dollars while you travel somewhere else. By chance do you have any Kissimmee vacation rentals? They have the page ready to go if you do!

Sailboats Origami for a Nautical Party

When I grew up we of course learned how to fold a paper airplane. Like the other kids, I tried to fold a good design to make it fly good, but often ended in disappointment. If you enjoyed folding paper planes, what about origami paper sailboats?

Here's a fun idea if you're planning a nautical themed party. Stock up on some fun decorative papers, colored pens, crayons or other ways to design a paper origami sailboat! I think every kid has learned how to fold a paper plane, but what about a paper origami sailboat? I never learned to fold an origami sailboat when I was a kid! Did you?

Watch the video below to learn how to quickly fold an origami sailboat, and then have the guests of your nautical themed party build their own. Just in case the video is not your preferred method to learn, there's also a good written description on how to build a paper origami sailboat.

While some of your guests attending your nautical themed party may not be into sailing, perhaps they would love to build a paper sea plane or your traditional paper plane. Your kids can also learn how to do a paper airplane to fly over to your origami sailboat!

Either way, origami can be a fun thing to do at a party and especially if the origami fits the theme of your party such as a nautical one.

Some ideas for things you can accomplish by using the trip planner:

  • Build your itinerary.
  • Save your travel research.
  • Access it easily in the future.
  • Share your plans with friends!

It's a great money saving and organized approach to planning a trip! No need to hire a travel agent or traveling guru. Take control and create your personalized checklists.

Some sites to help you can put together a trip planner, and trip checklists:

Sailing Schools
Be prepared with a proper sailing education for yourself. Keep in mind if you were to become injured or ill you may need another person to operate your sailboat.

You may want to be sure that at least one of your other passengers knows how to operate your sailboat, so sail on over to a sailing school to get that person educated before you go.

Marinas Directory and Checklist
The site with the directory and checklist I originally provided is no longer available. You could use your preferred internet map search for the marinas in the area you wish to locate.

Tropical Sailing Vacation List
If you're ready to get drenched by the sun, plan a sailing trip in the tropics!

Safe Sailing for Dummies
Provides a great checklist for the newbie sailor, and also good for the experienced sailor that may need some reminders before they set sail.

Sailing Checklist
Basic, yet also a thorough list for your sailing plans. Their list is divided into three groups: Equipment checklist, departure checklist and an arrival checklist.

Ideas for the Kids:

While making your sailing trip plans, if children will be traveling with you don't forget to pack appropriate gear and items to keep them entertained.

You might want to pack sailing or pirate board games to keep them out of trouble. Another fun idea to keep them entertained is to supply them with pirate attire and pirate costumes! Arrr!

I hope that information provides you with some great resources for your sailing trip so you can create a sailing planner. If those resources are of help to you, please comment here to let me know. Happy sailing!
